The Early Years Foundation Stage

From September 2008 all childminders will deliver the E.Y.F.S as part of their provision and will be inspected against. The E.Y.F.S framework sets the standards for the learning, development and care of the children from birth to the end of the foundation stage, the 31st August after their fifth birthday

The areas of learning and development:

There are seven areas of learning and development. All areas of learning and development are important and inter-connected. Three areas are particularly crucial for igniting children's curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, and for building their capacity to learn, form relationships and thrive.

These three areas, the prime areas, are:

  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Children must also be supported in the four specific areas, through which the three prime areas are strengthened and applied. The specific areas are:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

We are very pleased to announce that from April 2015 Cheeky Chimp’s childminding will be introducing new online learning journeys!

Using a piece of educational software called ‘Tapestry’ every child at Cheeky Chimps will have their own individual learning journal. By logging on with a secure username and password you will be able to access your child’s journal. Parents are only able to view their own child’s journal and all information is stored on a highly secure server, which is monitored closely.

Tapestry online learning journeys allow you to view your child’s observations and photographs from their time at childminders, almost as they happen! We will also reference your child’s learning to the EYFS profile. This will keep you informed of the areas of learning in which your child is achieving, also, the age band they were working in for the observed activity.

We know how much your children like to bring home their work to show you. Therefore, any work to be included on their learning journal will be photographed and added with an explanation of the learning that took place.

Tapestry allows you, to add observations and photographs of your own as well as share your comments, it is extremely important to us as this shows working in partnership together, with better outcomes for your child.

We also have a facebook secret group that is shared with only parents and staff, a great way to see what your child has been doing at their time at Cheeky Chimps
